2020-21 Annual Report

“This was a year like no other, dominated by the increasingly hostile noises from the Home Secretary about those whom we help, as well as the potentially overwhelming Covid-19 pandemic. The staff and volunteers of Medical Justice have risen to the many challenges, delivered against the odds, and this report shows how much there is of which they should be proud. …Most of all, it has been a dreadful year for those held under immigration powers, whether in IRCs or prisons. On top of all the existing harms from indefinite detention, these closed institutions are recognised to be places where infection can spread readily and where detainees have limited ability to protect themselves from infection.”

– Dr Hilary Pickles (Acting Chair)
